How to treat chlorine damaged hair.

If like me you have blonde hair and you enjoy swimming in the pool then you will recognize the problem of green hair. I didn't actually know that the chlorine in the pool caused my blonde hair to change colour until I visited my hairdresser who laughed pointing out that my hair had a tinge of green. Not knowing any difference I purchased a hair shampoo and conditioner costing me 25 pounds to remedy my problem.

Since moving to Spain I tend to swim in the pool every day and to my horror my hair felt out of condition and permanently had a tinge of green. Not wanting to spend further money on special shampoos and conditioners I investigated less expensive products to solve my problem.

Tomato Sauce
After washing and rinsing my hair I massaged tomato sauce, either bought or made, into my green locks and then covered my head in an old towel and left it for ten minutes. I must admit to having a fear that my hair would turn from green to red but no after rinsing my hair in warm water, both the tomato red and the chorine green disappeared. My hair actually felt smooth and had a lovely shine after using the tomato sauce.

I know that cucumber, egg white and lemon juice make lovely refreshing face masks, also that lemon juice lightens blonde hair. So I thought why not try it on my green hair, particularly as I had a glut of home grown tomatoes, fresh lemons from my trees and free range eggs from my chicks. I blended together a peeled cucumber, one egg and a squirt of lemon juice. I then massaged the mixture into my green hair and wrapped my head in a towel to allow the ingredients to work their magic. I also put the left over mixture on my face making a mask. After 10 minutes I rinsed the mixture out of my hair and cleaned my face. Hey presto my hair had returned to its blonde colour and my face felt refreshed and smooth.

Baking Powder
I read somewhere that baking powder mixed with water also removes the green tinge from blonde hair but I found that it dried my hair and did not really remove the green.

Mayonnaise
I also tried mayonnaise but I found that whilst it removed the green it left my hair feeling lank and greasy.

After my various trials I certainly recommend the Tomato Sauce or the Cucumber blend to turn chlorine green hair back to a natural blonde colour.
