The Beginning of My Social Work Career
When I was 13 year of age (1965) my little brother was born. At that point I decided that I wanted to work with children. Living on a council estate in Grimsby and attending a Secondary Modern School expectations were not high and I was advised by my teacher to learn to type and become a secretary. However my dear mother supported my views and helped me to gain a place at Scunthorpe College to attend a full time two year course to gain the PRCC. At 17 years of age I left home to attend college. Things were not easy for my parents who were working class and did not have a lot of money. However my mother was determined that I would succeed and supported me financially for two years, Little did I know at that stage that my career with children would span over thirty years.
