Whiter teeth using natural ingredients

How to achieve white teeth using natural ingredients

As a child I remember being told by a friend that soot was better than toothpaste to achieve white teeth. Much to the amusement of my older brother I took my pink rather worn toothbrush and scraped the black powder from the chimney of our coal fire. Despite the rather nasty taste and the grit that seemed to lodge itself between the gaps in my teeth I was convinced that my teeth looked whiter. However my rather smug brother pointed out to me that it wasn’t that my teeth were getting whiter but my gums turning black!

Since then I tended to rely upon toothpaste although I have tried those rather expensive gum shields and gel which did improve the colour of my teeth in the short term.
More recently, having more time on my hands and not being able to afford professional teeth bleaching I have tried various items found in my kitchen and garden to improve the colour of my aging teeth.

During the summer my strawberry plant thrived and provided me with an abundance of the lovely juicy fruit. I recalled reading that the strawberry contained an acid that removed stains from teeth so I blended a small amount of the fruit and used the substance to clean my teeth. Being aware that I was using a form of acid I decided that it was best not to use the strawberry blend everyday as the acid was likely to damage my gums. I also ensured that I brushed my teeth with warm water after using the mixture. After two weeks I definitely noticed that my teeth were looking whiter.

Other successful ingredients that I have used either alone or combined are baking soda, sea salt and wood ash. I was not particularly taken with the latter because it tasted rather gritty reminding me of my childhood experience with soot.

If using any of the above it is essential that teeth and mouth are rinsed with clean water.
