At long last I have made sense of my garden rubbish pile at the end of the garden (see previous posts) Yesterday I decided to move it all back to its original place but this time I have separated the logs from the other debris. I looked at the weather forecast for next week and it indicates rain and clouds so I'm hoping that we can get a fire going without the neighbours complaining.
Looking around the veg plots I can see little seedlings sprouting. I can also see my enemies the snails. I have put several slug traps around http://www.wikaniko.com/index.php?distributor=greenerearth&redirect=http://www.wikaniko.com/shop/slug-traps.html and much to Colin's disapproval have filled them with beer. At least my snails and slugs die happy.
I decided this year to grow catnip. My plans are to dry it and make catnip toys to sell. My cats just love catnip so I have had to cover the pot whilst it is growing otherwise there will be nothing left. Plus it will attract all the cats in the neighbourhood. We already have a visiting tabby cat who sleeps in the under build with our granny cat.
My hollyhocks are already in flower, the cherries are beginning to ripen, the figs are growing and the branches of the nispero tree are hanging with so much fruit. I really don't know what to do with the nipero fruit.Previously I have made chutney but it is really fiddly removing the stone and peeling the fruit. Nispero tastes quite similar to lychee so it is quite pleasant to eat but we can only eat so much.
Well summer has really has come early this year and I'm looking forward to harvesting my goods.
